The Philadelphia Experiment to Time Traveller
Saturday, August 30th, 2008
Nicole and I needed a movie to watch tonight, so I decided to pull one out of the archives that my brothers and I had watched countless times growing up called, “The Philadelphia Experiment“. It’s a good thing Nicole and I love the paranormal because this one definitely pushes the limits.
The story, take Einstein’s unified field theory and use it to turn a 1940’s war ship invisible.
The movie is great, acting is so so. However, the reason I am writing about this is that we let our curiosity drive our interest the hour or so following the movie, curiosity which led us to cool discovery channel-esque productions the “supposed” experiment that might possibly have actually happened.
And another informative source on the subject of The Philadelphia Experiment.

Facebook Badge as a WordPress Sidebar Widget
Friday, August 22nd, 2008
I tinker around a lot with WordPress. As a matter of fact, I tinker a lot and am quite good at it. I have created various custom modules (unpublished) as well as written a PHPBB to WordPress migration utility (long lost unfortunately). Lately I have been keen to develop custom sidebar widgets by mashing up social site widgets. My latest, the Facebook badge sidebar widget.
This is alpha code and is not intended for those unfamiliar with PHP and/or the WordPress API.
You will also need to be familiar with the WordPress widget API.

Update
It was late last night (before I went to see Star Wars Clone Wars) so I would like to clarify a little more. This specific clip is from a RU site so I cannot vouch for any other content if you choose to follow links to the site. The links below are to other sites that led me to it.
Need I say more!

Fixing: The administrator has set policies to prevent this installation
Thursday, August 14th, 2008
Apparently having a corrupted installer metabase can raise havoc with installing Microsoft software. This example relates to my attempt today to install my new laptop with all the relevant development tools to do my job, particularly MSXML6, and SQL Server 2005 management tools and references. However, the install continuously failed with the following error message, “The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation”. Apparently, event though I’m a local administrator, I don’t have permissions to install this particular software. Funny, I swore I was a local administrator. Nonetheless, I spend an hour or so disabling antivirus, firewalls, and even logging in safe mode, to no avail.
So the fix to bypass this error, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and remove all instances of the failed install attempts of MSXML and SQL Server components.
Viola, problem solved.

The Bucket List Effect, In a Weird Round About Way
Saturday, August 2nd, 2008
So Nicole and I watched The Bucket List late tonight. Yeah it was a great movie, we both loved it. After the movie I decided I wanted to get that song by John “Oscar” Mayer “Wiener” out of my head, so I headed to YouTube.com to reminisce “the day”. For some reason Journey came to mind. Specifically, “Faithfully”. I search for Journey songs, not to hard to find, and began to enjoy the melodic mood.
By then, Nicole had entered the room and overheard the song blasting through my PC speakers. She asked if I had heard the new song with their new singer. We commenced searching and researching the new lead singer for Journey, and how he came to stardom. But I digress (I’ve always loved being able to say that…)
Why is all of this important? Well, all the searching on Journey brought back from memory the 80’s rock group that changed me forever. You see, before I was introduced to them by my evil middle school influential friend of mine named Marc (at least so I was told by my mom), I had only been preview to your ever boring radio music forcibly brought on upon me by her (though all not so entirely poor in style and texture.)
