The Secret of NIMH, Live Action

Apparently certain scientists were deprived as children in not having seen the The Secret of NIHM. I wonder if they would have been so anxious to further this research had they actually seen what happens when you mix rats with genetic research.

Using Visual Studio.NET to Debug JavaScript

I have been using the Visual Studio JavaScript debugger for years (since VS 6.0). Apparently, a lot of developers with which I have spoken are oblivious to the fact that, in fact, you can debug many things from VS.NET (JS being one of them). Rather than put up a lengthy tutorial, I figured I would at least share what the keystroke combination is to access the Script Explorer from within VS.NET.

First, you’ll need to actually be attached to Internet Explorer (will not work with Firefox, at least to my knowledge) in script mode. Once attached, you then hit the CTRL + ALT + N keys to bring up the Script Explorer window. This will list out all the files IE has loaded at that time. You can then open up any HTML, JS, etc. files and set breakpoints to debug at runtime.

Amazing and pretty dang useful at the same time. Feel free to comment if you find this useful.

Let it snow…and…so forth and so on

Over the weekend we decided to keep up a tradition we have had over the past couple of years, to visit the fall leaves up Millcreek canyon after conference Sunday. Though we saw some pretty spectacular colors, we were more excited about the snow. Normally, we’re able to make it to the summit and park to do a little stroll up one of the trails. This time the roads were snow packed and we decided not to chance it. We were able to get some fun photos of the kids and family on our route back down. Incidentally, we happened across a group of college kids (from BYU I believe) who had driven their civic off the side of the road and gave them a ride down the mountain. Wasn’t that nice of us. “Yeah, please, come in to our “van” and experience the noise that is Beauen screaming his head off because he’s hungry…” I imagine those kids will have learned their lesson and will never get caught in that situation again.

Doug Crawford on Google Gears and Mashups

Ran across this video of Doug Crawford (JSON, JSMin, JSLint, etc) talking about Google mashups and Gears. Very boring to those non-coders. Somewhat interesting to some coders. Very interesting to those of us who live and breath code.

Might as well talk about UT3

Today was a stress-free, work-free day. What does that mean? I relax, I attend a couple of church meetings, and I research all the technology (games mostly) I’ve missed out on over the past year or so. Not that BioShock was not worthy of posting on, but the fact Unreal Tournament III is on the verge of release has me giddy, yet again, for the game I can assure you has taken more hours of my life than any of the others in my digital amusement arsenal.

However, having said that, it’s 12:30am on Monday morning (Sunday night) and I REALLY need to get up early and workout. So, in lieu of my limited time, I leave you all with a screen-shot and link to the Unreal Tournament III web site.

Enjoy.

Come all ye subscribers

Apparently I’m a dork. Okay, not just a dork, but a bumbling idiot. When I migrated this site on to WordPress, I assumed I had set it up to allow people to register to my new blog so you could all comment. “I get traffic, why doesn’t anyone comment?” Well, I just realized today I had not enabled that particular feature. Well, my sin has been forgiven and I have turned on registration and commenting. With moderated comments, I can keep those “free Paris sex video” type posters at bay.

Enjoy!

Brianne’s first day at ballet class

I guess all that toe walking has paid off for our little princess. Since Brianne can literally walk on her toe knuckles (as she so often does around the house) I figured she be a quick learn at ballet.

NYPC: Somewhat intoxicating rythm and beat

I ran across this online whilst doing freelance work. Not sure exactly how, but I’m glad I did. Some of you may not really enjoy this quite as much as I did. I find it addicting to listen to.
